BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1993, Pierre Lapprand is a saxophone player, composer and improviser based in Paris.

Born in 1993 in Strasbourg, Pierre begins to study classical saxophone at the music school of Ugine (Savoy) when he turns 7. The proximity to the mountains allows him to regularly go hiking, skiing or climbing, activities that will give him a strong affinity with nature and most certainly influence his music.

A few years later, he meets the pianist Philippe Codecco thanks to whom he discovers the world of Jazz, improvisation and composition. Curious and motivated, Pierre enters the Jazz department of the Chambéry conservatory before continuing his studies at the Jazz and improvised music department of the CNSMDP, from which he graduated in 2019. He obtained there a Master 2 in Jazz saxophone with the highest grade as well as a State Diploma for teaching. Pierre is very happy to have been able to write twice for symphony orchestra at the CNSMDP, as well as taking lessons with some of his idols (Mark Turner, Tim Berne, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Craig Taborn, Vince Mendoza, Billy Hart, etc).

Always searching for new sonic horizons, Pierre now explores the most punk corners of modern Jazz with CHRONES, improvises interstellar landscapes with Congé Spatial and creates a singular electronic universe with telluric energy in his solo project

Pierre & The Stompers. He can also be heard in the Afrobeat group Angelo Maria, Philippe Maniez's Dedication Big Band, the Thibault Gomez Quintet or the Franco-Estonian quartet of Raimond Mägi, groups with which he performs on the French scene as well as abroad (Jazz à Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, Jazz à la Villette, Jazzkaar Festival, Kongsberg Jazz Festival, ViJazz Penedes, Umbria Jazz Festival, Love Supreme Festival...). In 2022 he creates a duo with the jordanian kanoun player Symo Reyn, in between

live improvisation and sound design.

We also could hear Pierre opening for Herbie Hancock at the Jazzopen Stuttgart, for Avishai Cohen at the great hall of the Philharmonie de Paris, for Gerald Clayton at the Nice Jazz Festival or for Ben Wendel at the New Morning... He also had the pleasure to share the stage with Theo Ceccaldi, Anne Pacéo, Hugh Coltman, Brice Wassy, Line Kruze, Benoît Sourisse, André Charlier...

Pierre is often invited by conservatories to give master classes (CMDL, Conservatoire du Mans, Conservatoire Arlysère, etc).

He also took part in the two first editions of MASTER SAX, an online saxophone master class that covers all aspects of the saxophonist's life: from sound production to stress management, project development... An opportunity for Pierre to collaborate with Stéphane Guillaume, Baptiste Herbin, Jean-Charles Richard, Guillaume Perret, Geoffrey Secco...

Pierre plays the Ligaphone® reeds and ligatures.
